Is it just me, or is THIS disconcerting?!

That doesn't creep me out... unless I missed something skimming it. Someone is just trading one toy for another.

Boys like guns, and a good portion of those don't have a murderous bone in their body. my dad has one, my brother has one, both would like a few more... my husband and his father have several... so maybe I am just not shocked by it. Hubby couldn't shoot a dying dog to spare it pain...but he enjoys going after those rascally soda cans. HE is also a stickler for following all sorts of gun saftey rules.

Obama's got people scared about their gun rights. Prices for them have gone up (with demand) the last year... people are trying to get guns now so that if anti-gun laws pass, they will have their guns grandfathered into the law and they will have ones they can pass down to their children and such. So people who are afraid that if they don't get it now, they will never be able to are making other sacrifices (such as extra cars) so that they can have it.

I had no idea guns made you uncomfortable, but I guess I don't go around looking at people thinking "NRA member...pro gun law person"

oh, and in case you are still curious. I just talked to my husband who said that even gun stores are mostly sold out of guns, and have only like 2 boxes of bullets. They are getting shipments in, but they are selling out so fast. His uncle bought a gun a month ago and hasn't been able to find bullets for it.

So he could also be trading because nothing is ever in stock

I suppose none of your other readers care, but I thought you might be curious.

Wow, where to start.

Firstly, my posting of this had nothing to do with current political movements, or "reigning powers". I just think it is WEIRD to trade guns for a car. (I don't really consider minivans as toys, maybe that is just me. hahah) Especially because that is not a typical barter that you see. TYPICALLY, people are not bartering minivans for guns or ammo. It was just the strangest posting I had ever seen. Disconcerting means "to disorder, or disarrange" things, so my use of it had no bearing on my personal position about guns. I merely think it upsets the order of bartering, in terms of the norms on craigslist.

Now, with that said, I am not anti-gun. I'm well-versed on the Bill of Rights and I support them and their correct interpretation, be it narrow or broad as the issue warrants within the realm of judging with a moral compass. My first car's license plate was S&W 357, as in, Smith&Wesson. I was raised in an NRA family and fully plan on getting a concealed weapons permit. Shooting guns at cans is FUN. I actually have been sitting on an idea to pitch to the NRA about people who own guns. My first boss, who is my favorite man, and very much a grandfather to me, has an entire room in his home with guns displayed on the walls. He is the best man I know. I do not need to be converted to the idea that people who own guns are normal, seeing as I would like to own one.

I do not think this barter can be "blamed" on Obama. I personally believe that many of the people who FREAK OUT about the government and Obama do not have a correct understanding of the organization of government or faith in their own roles as citizens of this country.

Thanks for the info on gun stores, etc, though. I had no idea people were "up in arms", haha, about this. It does at least make a little more sense as to why someone would be looking to trade a van for ammo.
