wednesdays: bribery doesn't go far in our house

its not used often. but I was slightly desperate. didn't work, of course. W brought her the step stool and the toys. it had been awhile of her squawking wanting for someone to get her off the chairs. Now its over, and she just gets down, but oh my, what a travail to teach her.

she likes to lay out. definitely didn't teach her that. but lounging on her towel in the warm sun is one of her favorite things about the pool. she giggles like nobody's business when we put on her sunscreen. chlorine and sunscreen. ah ah. the smells of summer childhood.

I LOVE the reflected light on her face, the bokeh on the right, the absolute warmth and perfection of the memory this captured.  I want to print this HUGE.

wednesdays: bookshop

I love the written word. I hope the countless hours of story-reading to my children (by me and T both) helps them love reading as much as my mom reading to myself my siblings created a love of reading in all of us. E is rummaging in my purse, but W is "reading" a book. W and I just read a book that was a little scary for him (didn't know) but it was touching to watch him be brave til the end of the story.

wednesdays: under the table

did you finish my title with "and dreaming?" For a long while now, under the table has been W's domain. He loves it. Pretends there are monsters, pretends he's a monster. Just this last month, he's letting E into this space without pummeling her. In general, he's not a combative child, and is nice and loving to sweet miss bliss. But under the table has been his thing.

2nd image: he stayed that way for me. I think this is probably his first directed image. Just wanted to note it so I don't forget it.

this roll a month thing is to make sure i'm constantly photographing, but also a bit of a journal of our lives. we lost all our snapshoty digital pictures from E's first 8 months. i had already been doing a lot more 35mm film, but not completely. that has changed now. 100% film in the home life.

E started walking at 10 months. She follows me from room to room. She tries to run. She reaches for things higher up. she's another bookworm. (yaya!) i love her blurry pace. i sat on the floor for about 5 minutes while she walked back and forth, and i was previsualizing this image (thank you, jed wells for inspiring me to do this more). It turned out exactly how I wanted. I was somewhat discouraged with the january roll. I thought I had made a bad decision in this. Nope, totally a good one. :)

so i stayed true to my word about shooting a roll a month. part of the reason i wanted to do this was that we lost ALL of our snapshots from 2010 through a fight to the finish with our computer, i won't go into details. but it won.

these are the ones that speak to me from last month. i really love the one of W. I love how craze his eyes look. I completely remember exactly when i took it. And it says so much about his little "taking it all in so quick" state.

but i'm MISSING my online friends, so very much. So I'm hosting a little "get your studio groove on" party. for v-day. details to come, but I'll be at the studio all day, and peeps can come in (bring your cameras OR you can have me take pictures for a VERY minimal fee). I want this to be party-ish. I miss my friends. So I'll pick a date (give me suggestions if you'd like) and come on over. I wanna see you all. For real.

oh kiera. thank you for capturing perfectly me in the act of mothering.... stopping tears and calming E's heart. yet another image for my children to see who i was when they were young. i think images of women in their mothering years are so very important.
