And the last of the recent shots for The Motherhood Project. Probably in a tie for first in my favorite images from the series so far. Doesn't she just look like a goddess? (or black irish queen, can't quite decide). Either way, she is Gorgeous!

staying healthy
One of the reasons I love summer is that produce is finally affordable. Yay for salad!

Emily
I haven't written about this project on the blog at all, but I am photographing women who nurse past the 12 months mark. I think it is important for women to see that they are not alone, and there there are valuable experiences for yourself and your child by choosing to continue nursing and not follow societal norms to wean immediately at 12 months. Each woman has a statement, and I will be publishing these first in magazine form to distribute. Their words are uplifting.
You can see more of this project HERE.

within walking distance: the capitol
I know I already posted about seeing the Capitol. However, that was from a view park, and this was right up on it. Though I've been walking by for weeks now, I hadn't taken the time to walk up the steps. I realized last thursday why I love the capitol and this area of Salt Lake so much. It looks like the nation's capitol (so much in fact that Legally Blonde:2 was filmed here, that's a little piece of random useless trivia), and the monuments in memory grove below have the same roman-grecian-esque style. There is something reverent about it for me. And it looks enough like home, or is similiar a little, that I feel okay being here. I was getting antsy in our previous abode. I missed DC. Now, I'm just loving the sights (even more than before), and the walks and the view.
(p.s. i think i might put the first one up in my house. thoughts?)

MATTER: Marti
Marti
Culture maven, validation donor, expander of my horizons
As a side note: I met this amazing woman while changing my name on my social security card after being married. We started chatting about books because I had with me Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver (If you haven't read any Kingsolver, I would suggest reading The Poisonwood Bible first). Anyway, she said to me, "I know this might be a strange question, but would you like the join my bookgroup?" It is now years later, and the strength I gain from the feminine cocoon (that all good bookgroups are, so says Elizabeth Noble in The Reading Group), well, I am overwhelmingly grateful. Thank you, Marti for this and so many other things. I love you.

Carrie
A beacon of motherhood, happy disposition and infectious laugh. Thank you for telling me regularly how much you love me.
As a side note: the lab I use RUINED some of the large format negs I took in after having my mammoth studio day. This one had quite a few problems, and I took HOURS to fix it. It still isn't perfect. Perhaps I'm in the market for a new lab. Any suggestions?

Carrie
The best of my guffaw laughs, my link to hilarity in female numbers, the one who pushes me mentally.
A few weeks ago I auctioned off a few sessions for my church. Carrie got one of them.... in the best plea to a group I have ever heard. I LOVE when things overlap. Session for free= session I had been desperately wanting to do anyway. She is as beautiful as a model, photographed incredibly well, and was up for anything (obviously! look at the picture above!). Nothing beats that in a photo session! There are a LOT more on my client blog. Check it out!

Just in case you've been wondering what I've been up to, head over to the Client Blog.
This image, and many more to come, were a request from someone who is familiar with my work who wanted pictures of her grandmother in the style of my unmadeup project. I was more than happy to fill that request!
