striking resemblance

seriously. The WHOLE time this guy was competing (and the follow-up to his "own" gold medal), I could help but think of the sniveling, bratty king einon from dragonheart.... a wretched wretched film I was looped into watching because, hey, I LOVED Flight of Dragons (the animated one) as a kid, and SEAN CONNERY was the voice of the dragon in this one... Dennis Quaid, seriously, How DO you actually get into movies? BUT I DIGRESS.

the motherhood Project: Audrey

you may remember the digital manips I did on a quick shot I did to show her how one of the images looked during the shoot. Well, I saw this lovely lady yesterday for a much needed sanity check and we picked this one as her image for the project (out of the four I'd taken). She is gorgeous.... I don't have any other good adjectives at my disposal currently, but the fullness of the word applies here, I assure you.
If YOU have been photographed for the project, please get your STATEMENT to me. I wanna lay this puppy out! xo!

crossed paths with an angel

went to the chiropractor for the first time.
decided i deserved to imbibe a jamba juice. (bc i was courageous, obviously)
walked in, couldn't decide.
was chatted up by a well-dressed matron (because my round big-ol'-belly says, "TALK TO ME."
she was sitting there patiently waiting for her order, hands on her black purse that was laid on the table. she was wearing a eggplant colored turtleneck with a matching cardigan and a beautiful cross.
i knew i was supposed to stay and talk to her.
she looked so eager.
got her order before i had even made up my mind.
oatmeal and a berry something.
i got a humongous berry something (not a good choice, whatever i did pick) and a asiago pretzel.
asked if she was staying to eat.
she said yes.
so i sat.

and we talked for 45 minutes.
she told me about her births,
her children,
her first husband (who died),
her worries for her grandchildren.
Books and God and my life
and photography
and this baby coming
and wallace's birth.
and oh, so much about breastfeeding.
she did it when it was unpopular.
we talked about how beautiful it is, so serene and fulfilling.

she told me i was wonderful.
that this baby is lucky to have me as a mom.
that the birth will go well
and that God is proud of me.

who knew i was the one who needed our conversation? we didn't exchange info other than our first names but i will never ever forget her. like a personal guardian angel sent to buoy me up a little and calm my subconscious about this baby, my life, my work and my place as a daughter. dear lady, whoever and wherever you are, thank you ten-fold.

These little lovelies (called yo-yo's):

into a blanket:

for the baby. We still don't know the gender, but HEY... I have plenty of boys things already... and quite a few marvelous friends who ARE having girls around the same time. So... I can save it or give it to one of them... I'll admit it, I am kinda hoping its a girl!
Info wise-- each yo-yo is made from a CD-size circle. Four yo-yo's make a block (for what I did). There are 99 blocks laid out on my bed right now waiting for me to start sewing. Better go! Wish me luck that I finish before this baby comes!

Alice Lane is doing a giveaway. I wouldn't mind something pretty right about now!

one or two?

Keep in mind while in your decision process:

::Directly across, so above the dresser, will be 3 vertical 16x20's.

:: I already have massive amounts of hodge-podge photomontage type set ups on other walls in my casa.

I'm kinda thinking a horizontal 20x30 (or 20x24).

So THOUGHTS, PLEASE! this nesting thing is kicking my .... well,, you know.

angela the pioneer

Meet Angela

I honestly can't tell you which one of these is my favorite, and there are so many more HERE, but let's just say it was nice to get out of the studio for the afternoon, photograph some interesting concepts, and spend time with a stellar woman who ponders women's issues through a gospel-related perspective. Because sometimes, feminism is a little different that way. Angela, you're fan-freakin-tastic.

If you, dear reader, desire some interesting concepts to be explored with you as the subject, contact me. Real photographs matter.

i've been hinting.....

at a new project I haven't posted.

Reasons for not posting:
its not done
hasn't been photographed in order, and therefore has gaps in the beginning
humongous files that are painful to deal with

Reasons for posting NOW:
might not finish before baby
need some good work to post that i can breathe nicely about
i WANT to post it.

So, for the next 2 weeks or so, you'll be seeing something everyday from this. I can promise that because they're already scheduled. thank-you, blogger.

P.S. working title is "sizes".

the motherhood project: Caryn

Just another one to add to the growing number of women I have photographed who nursed a child (or children), past the 12-month mark. If you fit in this category and would like to be part of the project, please contact me. It will be distributed to doctor's offices, etc, FREE, to promote nursing. Each woman has her own paragraph-ish statement on why she is glad she did, or a funny story about it, etc. Each is as unique as each relationship.

P.S. I think Caryn looks UNBELIEVABLE in this image. SUCH A BABE! my word!

from the studio

was setting up a shot for a project i'm working on (and haven't posted at all! eeee!), and this is what I saw through the ground glass of my camera. Unfocused and thoroughly lovely. I'm thinking, watercolor paper and matted, about a 6x8 size or so. I love it! Turned out just how I knew it would!

Happy 2 years to my favorite storytime companion. Birthday portraits to come!
